The Best of Volition Beauty: Safe Science and Pregnancy Safety
When Volition Beauty appeared on the Sephora website a few months ago, I received a lot of messages from readers asking about this brand. Volition Beauty is cruelty free and they focus on what they call “Safe Science”, which avoids many of the ingredients I advise my readers to avoid in my Pregnancy Safe Beauty Guide, such as retinoids. They focus on including ingredients with proven skincare benefits. You’ll find some of their best sellers at Sephora, but they have even more products on their website, such as the Double Edged Eyeliner Pen, and kits with their best products. Their website also has free shipping, samples and other great offers. When they asked if I would collaborate with them on a post, I jumped at the chance to check out a few of their most popular products. My readers have been very interested in checking out this brand, I had to see what they hype was all about for myself! I tried out the Best of Volition set, which has 3 of their best selling cult favorites: • Strawberry-C Brightening Serum • Turmeric Brightening Polish • Apple Cider Vinegar Resurfacing Peel Pads Strawberry-C Brightening Serum I am frequently asked about my favorite pregnancy safe vitamin C serum. Here it is! This serum is full of vitamin C, learn more about how vitamin C works in skincare. Volition has included vitamin C through extracts that are high in vitamin C, such as the Strawberry fruit and seed extracts. You’ll also find 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, a slight modification of vitamin C that makes a big difference. The alternations make the vitamin C both more stable and improves its ability to penetrate into your skin. Volition has also included hyaluronic acid and panthenol for hydration, as well as cucumber for soothing. I love that this doesn’t feel like a typical serum. I feel like a lot of serums are a little thick and sometimes can feel sticky. This is like a light lotion, it sinks in right away and adds just the right of moisture to my skin but doesn’t feel heavy at all. It feels very soothing, and afterwards my skin just feels glowy and pampered. It doesn’t leave behind any residue either, so I’ve been using it twice a day, even under makeup! This is the vitamin C serum I’ll be recommending to help fight hyperpigmentation. Turmeric Brightening Polish I keep hearing about Turmeric in skincare. The mechanisms aren’t well understood, but there’s a growing body of evidence that Turmeric has antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. It’s been shown to help acne, eczema and even aging when used topically and/or by mouth. I’m sure more evidence and understanding will be forthcoming in the next few years. I love being able to use Turmeric on my skin, without having to go the DIY route. It’s all mixed up and ready to go, no prep needed and no storage issues for leftovers. This scrub/mask can be used anywhere on your body, though I prefer using it on my face. It just feels like a regular face cleanser, with some small sand-like granules. Note, they aren’t sharp and they are very uniform in size and shape. The Polish doesn’t have much scent at all, and it isn’t sticky. Turmeric Brightening Polish is really easy to use. I apply a light layer and leave on for about 2 minutes before washing off. It doesn’t feel like much of anything while it is on my skin, there’s no tingling and nothing hurts. It rinses off very easily, I don’t even feel the need to follow up with a different cleanser. My skin is definitely smoother and it was a perfect match for the Strawberry-C Serum. I’ll be reaching for this duo all summer. Apple Cider Vinegar Resurfacing Peel Pads I’m a big fan of regularly exfoliating my skin. Gentle exfoliation keeps my skin glowing, helps my skincare products penetrate (and therefore work) better, and keeps any flaking away. These peel pads are super easy to use, just wipe them over your skin immediately after washing. There’s no need to even rinse anything off. I feel a little tingling during use, but that’s about it. Because I do have rosacea and sensitive skin I’ve only used these every few days, but you can work your way up to daily if your skin tolerates it. The exfoliation from the Peel Pads is a little more than the Tumeric Brightening Poish, but I would still call it gentle. In addition to the Apple Cider Vinegar, you’ll find Witch Hazel, Apple and Orange extracts. Please note, ACV Resurfacing Peel Pads have Glycolic Acid, which I recommend avoiding while pregnant. They’re fine to use while nursing, so save the pads for later if you are currently pregnant. I’ll be adding these into my skincare routine a couple of times a week. I think they’re a great way to keep my kind exfoliated without causing redness or irritation. Now that I’ve tried a couple of products from Volition, I admit that I have a long list of Volition products I want to try! The Jetset & Protect Leave-On Mask, Oil-Control Mattifying Mist and a ton of other products are in my cart now. What have you tried from Volition? What products are your favorite? Shop the Post Pregnancy and Nursing Safe Products from Volition Beauty Below you’ll find lists of pregnancy and nursing safe products from Volition Beauty. These are based on my Pregnancy Safe Beauty Guide, and the list of ingredients to avoid during pregnancy. Note that these are based on my opinion as a physician, through reading the medical literature and many discussions with other physicians. Volition Beauty hasn’t come out with a stance on the pregnancy safety of these products. My opinion also tends to be very conservative on what I consider to be safe during pregnancy.
